Time-limited Building Permit Applications

One of the most pressing reasons for using a permit expediting service such as
State Permits Inc, especially if you are applying for a number of building permits across multiple jurisdictions for a single project, is that many permit granting authorities place a time limit upon the amount of time in which a building permit application can be assessed.
Often this cut-off is 180 days, though the time frame may not apply to every type of project. After that point you stand to risk losing your application fees, and you may also be required to resubmit your documents – in other words, you’re starting from scratch at the back of the queue. This may seem like an unfair system, but in reality it is necessary to discourage applicants from submitting poorly prepared permit applications that use up planning department time to no good effect.
In reality, the time frame is often tighter than than the specified cut-off, because owing to existing backlogs within many systems, many building permit applications are not even considered until more than 90 days after they have been submitted. This can leave just a couple of months in which to resolve problems with an application.
Good planning and preparation is vital, therefore, because once your permit is “in the system” you don’t want to be wasting days trying to track documents down or get plans redrawn and verified. Expediting specialists are experienced in dealing with time constraints, and are also skilled in negotiating speedy review processes from granting authorities.
